On the course, Samantha Crabb developed her skills within portrait photography, capturing a range of different sports teams. She has always competed in sports teams such as Hockey, Swimming and Athletics, inspiring her projects. She wanted to freeze time to capture athletes’ facial expressions and detailed moments that people are not quick enough to notice. Her knowledge has expanded in fast shutter speed photography when capturing a moment.
Crabb’s photos are of athletes focused within moments during their training. She captured their facial expressions when taking time to catch their breath or socialising with teammates. Capturing their expressions to display that physical exercise is difficult.
Her idea was formulated after researching Spencer Murphy’s work of horse riders. Rather than capturing the riders during the race, he captured them and their emotions afterwards. Her interest within sport photography has now increased and she wants to expand on this project in the future.
