Contemporary Art Practice

Meghan Robertson’s practice stems from a fascination with the human psyche and the ability to create multiple alter egos for ourselves, as a means of both self-expression and escapism. They’re particularly interested in this relationship in correlation to the body and our capability to blend in with the mundane of everyday, then morph into otherworldly idiosyncratic characters by night.
The material and over-arching sensorial experience of latex is of special significance to the artist: the look, the texture and the underground culture that surrounds it. They too, have created one of these characters – using video and sculpture as catalysts in this persona driven work, which aims to push societal norm and raising questions about the presentation of the self.
