Fashion and Textile Design
Combining her love for traditional process and contemporary product, Gillian Girvan takes inspiration from textural organic matter, extracts what she finds interesting and works with her inspiration to create abstract, palpable ranges of textiles. She works with alternative drawing materials, like tapes, folded papers and drawing with blades to emulate and explore the textural qualities of her inspiration.
Girvan’s work has used a range of weights of leather, while maintaining a tight monochromatic colour palette, alongside traditional hand-crafted leather technique in order to create a contemporary and tactile range of leather. She has embraced a process lead project to amplify the simplicity of creating hand crafted leather which maintains a solid design aesthetic.
