Beth’s initial inspiration came from photographs she had taken of footprints in the sand along Aberdeen beachfront. She explored the shapes and patterns created in the sand and the bottom of shoes and replicated it using knitted structures.
From researching trainers further, materials such as mesh and vinyl’s were included in the design process – as these are used in many trainer exteriors and a lot of sports clothing. By using traditional knitting techniques and combining them with materials such as vinyl it added a new level of contemporary design that she was hoping to achieve for her graduate collection.
